A Note from the Volunteer Coordinator:
First of all, I can never say it enough: thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Without the help of each HFH volunteer, whether it be out at the work site, at a special event or in the office, the good work that happens through Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County would not be possible! I know that I am personally blessed each day, just by witnessing the generous hearts of Habitat volunteers.
This good work is still in progress! We are SO very close to finishing the first Sumas Duplex, but we can not do it with out you! We hope to have the Gonzalez and Scott families moved in during the month of October – this will be cause for celebration!
Please don’t underestimate the impact you have by coming to a Wednesday or Saturday work party!
If you feel like you would like to help in other ways beyond the work site, please send me an email as there are many opportunities for you to get involved in this wonderful work in Whatcom County!

Envision Ministries and three trees coffeehouse is still going strong in downtown Bellingham, but we do need some more people who would be wiling to be baristas, cleaners, minglers and/or prayers. Also in 2008, we are starting a Vespers service at three trees called the Jesus Gathering in order to give people a taste of the worship experience and more discipleship. Please consider having your church put on a meal on Sunday afternoon at least once in 2008 and helping us with the worship service.
For more information and if you sense this is something God would have for you, please contact Mitchell Senti at 392-0289 or e-mail at mitchsenti@hotmail.com. Thank you and bless you in Christ Jesus!

Also, the Commission Against Domestic Violence is providing a Labyrinth Walk For Healing on October 15th.
We are putting together a small group of people from Mosaic that will give Sean Humphrey House Aids clients occasional rides to their doctor visits. This is a great need and a simple way for us to serve.
Recently, Sean met with the new volunteer coordinator and she said giving rides to doc visits was a need. There are also needs in the kitchen making diners (Jackie is doing this) and special event needs that we have helped with in the past. A few people have already volunteered, but we would like to find 3 or 4 others that would be willing to give occasional rides as well. I think taking on the doctor visit transportation as Mosaic is a great practical way to serve and beautify these people.

Dave Veenbaas is a volunteer with the Whatcom County Jail Ministry that goes into Juvenile Detention each week. For the past four years, Dave has had an informal follow-up with them (At Risk Youth involved with Juvenile Justice System) after they are released from detention and then tries to help with their reentry.
This group was meeting over at the “Old Boys Club” on Cornwall, using the gym and doing some arts & craft kind of things on Saturday nights. Recently, they have had to suspend this activity because the guys who were volunteering had to move on to some other activities in their lives.
I told Dave I would help him get this thing going again and we will be meeting next week (Wednesday -September 12th – 7:30 pm) at the downtown Starbucks to discuss how we can get some volunteers and keep this idea alive.
If you are interested, or know someone who is between the ages of 25 – 35 who would be willing to commit to volunteering one night a week working (being a friend, mentor, trusted adult, having some fun with) with this special and sometimes challenging population, let us know.
This is not necessarily an easy group to work with and it takes some special skills, abilities, and attributes to relate to them.
Contact Dave Veenbaas at 671- 4147 or Jim Cozad at 961-8841.
